Fifth Street Saints,
As Christians, we are not called only to sit in the pew on Sunday morning, and then live the rest of the week as though we are one with the world. We are to take what we learn and live it out, to apply it and to be examples to the pagan world around us. The world should look on us with jealousy, and wonder how they can have what we have. While reformed circles do a great job of providing a place where those seeking solid doctrine and true biblical worship can come and find respite, we don’t always do a great job of taking that doctrine beyond the walls of our sanctuary.
To that end, a number of groups have sprung up over the years that seek in various ways to take the love we have for Christ and for one another and show it to our community, that God may be greater glorified here in Tyler. Some of these groups are directly tied to FSPC and some are not, but are directed by our brothers and sisters in the church. Some of you may already be involved in these groups, or you may have heard murmurs about them, or this may all be news to you. In any of these cases, it is helpful to know what your brothers and sisters are up to in our little corner of the fight to make disciples of all nations.
If you have any questions, or want any more information about any of these groups, you can ask an elder or deacon.
Rose City Classical Academy
This week brings to a close the first quarter of Rose City Classical Academy, after which the students (and parents) will get a two-week break. There have been smiles and there have been tears, but no one will argue about what a blessing it has been.
The consensus from parents is very positive. For those coming from a homeschool background, the greatest advantage was having a set amount of work to be done and being held accountable for it. It is easy as a homeschool family to say, “well we don’t actually have to do that today”, and before you know it, a week has gone by with a subject being completely neglected. Having a loving school family that makes sure you have what you need, so the work gets done pays great dividends at the end of the day.
Parents with experience in other schools noted how much more their children are learning at RCCA. The academic rigor is preparing the children to take dominion in a way other schools don’t do.
The students look forward to Thursdays, when they get to attend class, and most have expressed a desire to have more classroom time.
Through the remainder of the calendar year, the school board will be actively seeking donations from the community to hopefully expand what they offer and provide scholarships to potential students.

Upcoming Dates:
- Last Day of the Quarter: 9/12/2025
- First Day of Second Quarter: 9/29/2025
Men’s Discipleship Night
Men’s Discipleship Night has been combined with Grill Night. The men meet in the kitchen on the first Tuesday of the month, grill some meat, and discuss important topics over their “kill”. This is an important time of fellowship for the men to sharpen one another and help our families grow in the faith
Next Meeting: Tuesday 10/07/2025 6 PM at FSPC
Trail Life
The decision was made that for the first year, membership will be limited to FSPC members. This will allow the group to get their bearings and ensure they are providing an efficient, God honoring organization. The first meeting will be a review of policies and procedures to streamline the meetings going forward.
Kickoff: 9/20/2025 8:30 AM at FSPC
Book Study
This group resumed in the late summer with two discussions over the book Angels in the Architecture. The group meets on a semi-regular schedule that is often subject to change, generally in one of the homes in the Green Acres area. This is a great night of fellowship centered around the discussion of a book. The books are not limited to theology, but are always reviewed with an eye to how they can be used to glorify God, and/or understand the world and time He has placed us in.
Next Book: Beowulf
Next Meeting: TBA
Mercy Ministry
The men’s work group has not had a recent project. Partially due to the busy lives of the men involved, and partially due to no requests for work. If you are aware of anyone in need, let a deacon know.
A growing number of FSPC saints have shown interest in participating in home visits. FSPC has a few, at least partially homebound members. We all know how important fellowship with other believers is, and not just on Sunday morning. When our fellow saints are unable to attend church events, or even corporate worship, it can be isolating. It is a blessing to have brothers and sisters stop by, even if just for a few minutes. Beyond that, we can be a witness to neighbors when they see the love we have for one another, and that we don’t just forget about the home bound. If you have any interest in participating in these visits, please check with an elder or deacon.
Bulletin Boards
The bulletin boards in the fellowship hall will be updated soon and repurposed as community boards for posting extra-curricular activities our children and young adults at FSPC are involved in. This includes sporting event schedules, piano recitals, theater performances, choir events, etc. Any parents who would like to share schedules of their children's upcoming events, so church members can attend, are encouraged to contact Lisa Rawls at Rawlslisa@gmail.com
Additionally, photos of the children in action during these activities and events can be sent to Lisa, and they will be posted on the community boards.
We want to encourage the successes and efforts of our children at FSPC and encourage community involvement in their events and performances. The community boards are intended to facilitate this.
